Introducing the new 62’ Dark Horse! Sailing daily out of Atlantic Highlands Municipal Marina

Got down to the dock this morning and felt a breeze from a direction that it was not supposed to be in, and immediately knew we were in trouble today. The NE wind that was supposed to hold off until tonight started at about 7am this morning, go figure. Anyway, steamed out to where we had some decent fishing yesterday to find a 1.8kt drift and not a chance we were going to catch anything. Worked the engines hovering over some pieces and we picked away at some shorts and some keepers but nothing good. Once the wind backed off a little bit, it gave us a manageable drift. Still very fast, but manageable with heavy lead. Unfortunately still didn't really see the life we were looking for, just picking a random keeper here and there. Didn't really matter where we looked today we saw the same life everyehere.
With that being said, we have some hard NE winds coming the next few days so we will be tied to the dock for at least Tuesday and Wednesday. Hoping to get back out there Thursday and Friday to see what's left for us before Fluke season closes on the 25th. It's starting to be that time of year, where this constant NE winds leaves us with not much to catch fluke wise. We might have to shift our focus to blues/bonito and other speedsters, but we will see what happens! Can only go out and give it hell every day. We've been lucky the past few days to stumble upon some decent piles of quality keepers in our many miles of lifelessness traveled. Can only hope that there's still some fish left for us after the blow.
Sailing Thursday, and every day after that

Another drop dead gorgeous day on the fluke grounds today. Steamed right to where we had the best life yesterday to only find a couple of keepers and a handful of shorts. Knew it wasn't going to happen so took off. Looked all over the place, not finding too much in our travels. Finally landed on a very nice patch of fish and the guys went to work. All the keepers were very nice quality with decent short life in the mix. The out of season jumbo Seabass were a pain too. Couple of limits, couple with 2 and a bunch of singles spread around. Lisette stuck the pool winner showing all the guys up💪

Absolutely gorgeous day on the fluke grounds today. Left the dock with only a couple guys this morning... Wouldn't usually go with only a handful but I'm glad we did today. The guys went to work right away picking away at the keepers at every drop. Not many shorts, seemed like the bites you got were keepers. Dropped a number of nice fish too. Conditions were no good with whacky currents making the drift terrible. Worked some very small pieces of bottom and thankfully the guys were able to make their bites count. Everyone on board was able to stick 2 nice keepers (except Nick who had to hold my fish up for a picture, he sucks😂) Frank won the pool with a 7.0lb fish, and John wasn't far behind with his. Thanks for fishing hard today guys, glad everyone was able to go home with plenty of meat.
Back at it tomorrow, weather looks fantastic for BOTH trips!!

Bluefish Beatdown on today's Magic Hour Diamond Jigging Blues trip!! Great fishing all afternoon with fish flying over the rail on every drift. Fish ranged from 3-11lbs, with a good amount of gaffer size fish! Also saw a couple of bonito tonight too. Between the perfect weather and the fantastic fishing, couldn't ask for much more tonight!
Doing it again Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings 3:30PM-10PM!
Plenty of room on all trips, come on down and get in on this bite!

Back out on the fluke grounds this morning after another easterly blow. Big swell for most the day but otherwise a nice day. Wasn't sure what to expect so we trucked on out to where we had the best life on our last trip. Saw some bites, couple keepers and couple shorts. Kept it moving, never sitting in an area very long. Fished anywhere from 60-110' today. Found life in most places with some pieces holding decent short life and a keeper here and there. Had a couple decent shots of keepers but it was never repeatable. Was good to see some bites despite the conditions with the blow, as the ocean gets nicer it should get better.
Have some east wind coming again tomorrow, but we will be there in the morning. Hopefully the ocean will be fishable.
Sailing 7:30AM-2:30PM and 3:30PM-10PM
Plenty of room this weekend as well, weather looks very nice Saturday and Sunday on all 4 trips.

Little peak into the action tonight.... Great fishing from start to finish! Full report to come....

New seasonal pool leader!!! Lots of quality today for our light crowd that braved the rain. Steve led the way with an 8lb 5oz beauty on his first drop this morning that took the lead in our seasonal pool. Picked and plucked early on, lots of bouncing around catching one here one there. Finally landed on a nicer pile of fish and the guys went to work. Keepers coming up on every drift mixed in with shorts, with a bunch of guys seeing limits. Pool runner up went right around 7lb, and the next one down was 6lb. Was great to see bites after a couple days of south wind.
Tomorrow's Marathon Monday 6:30AM-3:30PM trip has plenty of room still. Keeping an eye on the weather, I don't like the hard north forecasted in the am. If we can't fish where we want to fish, we won't be going. Will post about that trip later on after the updated forecasts come out.
Weather looks fantastic for tonight's 3:30PM-10PM Blues, come on down. Flat like a lake out here, and no rain!

Steamed out this morning with a nice group, not really knowing what to expect with the hard south blow overnight. Had a big swell left over but it was very fishable. Saw bites right off the bat with a decent pick of shorts and a few keepers coming up. Unfortunately it was short lived, after a couple drifts it became a death pick. Went looking only seeing a few bites. Steamed offshore and found the life again but the keepers were tough to come by. By that time the wind picked up and conditions went downhill. Always hope for better, but gotta deal with the conditions that are dealt. Thanks everyone for fishing hard today!
We are SOLD OUT tomorrow morning, and cancelled tomorrow afternoon.
Sunday morning looks very nice with north with in the forecast. Plenty of room on both trips Sunday 7:30AM for Fluke and 3:30PM for Blues

Steamed out this morning with a beautiful ocean. First drop of the day saw instant life, with keepers coming up right away. Bounced around that area and found a few more keepers and some shorts. Then Matt stuck a beautiful fish that bounced between 10.0-10.2lbs on the boat scale. As soon as it hit the deck, the first words out of his mouth were "let's get a weight and throw it back!". So as soon as we scaled her, back in she went. Was great to see a fish of the quality be released to make more. Was the biggest of the year, but was not in the seasonal pool! After we released that fish, it was a slow pick the rest of the day. Checked a bunch of different areas from 45-110' with life pretty much everywhere but not enough keepers. Found a few right at the end of the day but it still wasn't enough. Thanks everyone for fishing hard today, and congratulations Matt on the PB and immediately following it up with a 6.5lb fish. Great job.
Unfortunately, we have some wind in the forecast for tomorrow. Updated forecast is showing gusts over 20 from the NE, so we are going to take a pass on our Marathon Monday trip. All those booked should be receiving emails.
We are SOLD OUT on Tuesday morning, so our next open boat will be Wednesday 9/3 7:30AM for Fluke. Come on out and get some Fluking in before the season closes.
