Back out today after a day off with the blow yesterday. Leftover heave definitely took a toll on the bite in the morning. Bounced around seeing okay short life and some keepers. Once the tide switched the swell died down and the bite picked up. Much better short life with a decent amount of keepers coming up. Some quality showed at the end of the day as well, with a couple fish in the 5-6lb range. Definitely a good sign for tomorrow. Weather looks gorgeous, and the ocean will be flat calm. Weather forecast put a damper on the crowds today, but we still went with our light crew. Weather was beautiful, little roll before the tide switched but wasn't terrible. Went in a different direction than yesterday with the different conditions and found what we were looking for. Lots of power drifting the first half of the day, but saw steady short action with keepers in the mix. When the tide switched we shifted onto some smaller pieces and the keeper ratio got much better. Michele led the way with a double limit of 6k, and a 6.1lb fish. John was not far behind with 5k and the pool winning 6.18 lb fish. Lou held his own and had 5k as well. Ended the day with 18k for our 7 anglers. Also had our shot at some cobia, getting multiple bites and having 2 hooked for a bit. 1 very large one that we would've loved to see hit the deck! All in all, a great day on the water and everyone on board is going home with plenty of fillets. Here's some pics from today! Another gorgeous day on the fluke grounds this morning with a light crowd. Stayed in one area all day fishing a bunch of different snags. Had a very good drift all day even with the lack of wind. Constant action with loads of shorts and keepers coming up all day. Was never fast and furious but steady fishing. As the day went on the keeper count definitely added up. Pete led the way with 7k, Paul right behind him with 5. More than enough fish for everyone on board to go home with plenty for dinner. Ended the day with around 30 keepers in the box for our 13 anglers. I'll take a day like today any day of the week. Back at it tomorrow, weather looks good! Another beautiful day on the fluke grounds with a very light crowd this morning. Had no conditions for the majority of the day with no movement at all. Had to work the jigs around the boat to get the bites. Definitely not the bite we saw yesterday, but good short life at times with keepers coming up around the boat. Everyone on board was able to go home with some fluke for dinner. Those who casted around with light jigs definitely did better than those dragging bait rigs. Tomorrow is a new day, and the weather looks very nice! Very good Fluking on our Marathon Monday trip today! Headed out with a light crew of 11 this morning. No wind or current all day, so decided to work some very small pieces of bottom from the start. Most had very good short life, with a couple keepers coming off each piece. Took a look out in the deep, found more of the same fishing but with the addition of a ton of ling. Loaded some buckets with them and went back inshore. Again, bites as soon as you hit the bottom with a good amount of keepers coming up. 3 guys ended with 5, couple with 4 and many with their limit. Ended the day 2 fish shy of our 11 man boat limit. 6" gulps were the ticket again with white and pink shine catching most the fish! Friday 7/25 (late report) Great fishing and great weather! Decided to fish a different area than we did yesterday and we saw even better fishing! Lots and lots of bites all day with some great flurries of keepers. Slow drift most of the day with the light breeze and no current, but if you worked the baits the fish bit! Like yesterday, nothing came easy as we made a million short drifts on small piles of fish. But, everyone fished very hard and got it done. Bunch of limits around the boat, and many with 2. Very good quality once again, with many in the 4-6lb range. Also lost a few fish that we would've loved to see... Cannot stress the importance of fishing the 6" gulps guys!!! It's the difference between catching shorts or catching keepers most of the time and today was no different. If you don't have any and can't stop on the way to the boat, we have plenty of everything you need on board! Ask the guys and they'll get you set up. Good fluke fishing today! Caught the last bit of the tide on our first drop and had action right away with keepers and shorts. Got what we could out of it until the conditions flopped. Made a move when the current changed and found another nice body of fish. Many fish in the 5-6lb range today. Had to do a lot of power drifting with the wind against tide conditions, but we got it done. Bunch of limits++, many with 2 and singles scattered all over the boat. Back out this morning with a light crowd after the blow yesterday. Little left over sea, but nothing major. Had some action right away on our first couple drops but it was short lived. As soon as we started to get the current we had the wind come up right against it. Just enough to hold us up and make us spin in circles. Checked a few different areas seeing only a couple bites at each with the lack of conditions. Finally stumbled on a decent patch of fish and was able to pull some nice ones out with decent short action. Lots of bites, with some Seabass in the mix. If we had better drifting conditions it would've been a totally different story.... There was a lot of fish there. Tomorrow is a new day and weather looks good. Beautiful day on the water today. Rain cleared well before we left the dock and the sun came out shortly after. Light breeze made for a slower drift most of the day. Looked over some different bottom than we've been fishing the past few days and found loads of life everywhere we looked. Most spots produced drop and reel shorts, with a few keepers in the mix. Kept riding, checking different areas looking for a better ratio but found the same everywhere we looked. Drop and stick type fishing, but had to work for the keepers. Some very nice quality fish came up in the mix. Lots of big knucklehead Seabass as well. Found a nice little area of fish to end the day but unfortunately just ran out of time even with some OT.
